I went out to Staten Island this morning to look for the Red-Necked Grebe that had been reported there a few days ago. Apparently, the information was a little too old, and the bird was absent. I'm learning this lesson over and over: bird information is extremely perishable, and the sooner you can get to the bird the better chance you have. While I was at the reservoir I did re-find the Greater White Fronted Goose that I'd seen on the 4th. What a difference! Whereas last time I was shooting through a chain-link fence at dawn, and getting just passable photos, this time I was able to see the bird from the other side of the lake in good light, and got much better shots. Here's one old and one new.
